The American Hospital of Albania was established in December 2006 as the first private hospital in Albania.
The Hospital started its activity based on the experience of many foreign professionals of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery, to serve patients with cardiac problems in and outside of Albania and the percentage of cardiac patients leaving Albania to be treated abroad declined by 85% during the first year.
After the success in cardiology American Hospital widened its activity focusing first in general surgery, orthopedics, eye surgery and urology and expanded into the full service organization that it is today.
WHO’S BEHIND THE AMERICAN HOSPITAL?
Southeast Europe Equity Fund II (SEEF II) investment fund was founded in March 2006 in the wake of co-financing worth around $200 million by institutional investors from Europe and the US, as well as by Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), an investment agency of the US government, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
SEEF II (now worth $320 million) is managed by SEAF – Small Enterprise Assistance Funds which is an investment management group that provides growth capital and business assistance to numerous partners in Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America etc. SEEF II owns investments in healthcare, telecom, media, and financial services sectors in Southeastern Europe with a focus on Albania, Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, Serbia, Croatia.
